Binx's Review of Honeymoon Island State Park Beach

Hello all dog families, I had another adventure this past weekend! My mom has this great book called The Dog Lover's Companion to Florida and it is full of great places to go. The new beach we found this time is called Honeymoon Island State Park Beach. It is a dog friendly beach in Dunedin, Florida. It was around 20 miles from Busch Gardens in Tampa. It is $5 per car to get in and the walk from the car to the beach on the path is not far at all. All dogs must be kept on a 6 foot leash at all times. There were three dogs that were let loose there and were causing a ruckus for us rule following dogs, but they did not get away with it long. There are beach patrol around that made the people leash up! There was not much about the beach that we didn't like. On the side of the path to get to the beach where there are free poo-bags for people to use it was clear that there are a few people that did not follow the rules. There were no messes at all that we saw on the beach area though. When we were there we saw a handful of these weird looking things called jellyfish, mom made sure that we didn't get mear those! She said that they are not good for us! I would have tried to play with them you know! The water was the clearest beach water we have ever seen. You could see the bottom and all around you, it was great! Mom got some seashells even! When mom and I were talking to the beach patrol about what the beach is usually like they said that after the last hurricane that went through that way is when the jellyfish started showing up and more stingrays. They said normally there are not so many. We did not see any of the stingrays though, but mom saw what she thought looked like a little crab that scooted away when she walked by it! The beach was so nice there. We saw a bunch of sailboats, jet skiers, and boats there. There are even a couple benches to sit on. Make sure that your pet parents use the bathroom before you go to the beach when you get there since they are up by the parking lot! I am putting some of the photos here for everyone to see! The address of the beach is: 1 Causeway Boulevard
Clearwater, FL 34689
and the phone number for more information is: 727-469-5942

Thanks Binx, if we ever

Thanks Binx, if we ever visit that way when they all go to Disney and such that way she will have to let me go too, last time I went with them and stayed the hotel, it was funnn! They would leave for a little bit and come back to let me go potty and such and leave again, they had a pool so mommy and everyone went swimming, my grandma held me while she went swimming, I wanted to bogey board so bad! But here mommy says the water is real clear, she wants me to go to one of those beaches, she has yet to find one that has clear water where doggies can visit, the one we go to is in the bay so the water isn't that clear, mommy went to the beach this weekend and she said she saw these big jelly fish things, I don't know what they are, she said they were HUGE though, she did see but three or four, she said it was real nice, hopefully she can take me to the beach one last time before the cold comes! Nice hearing about your weekend and glad you had much fun! I hope you get to go again and tell us all about it!

Hi there Sissy, we have been

Hi there Sissy, we have been to a few beaches here in Florida where great dogs like you and I can get wet! If you ever do get this way you can either get the book The Dog Lover's Companion to Florida or just tell us the area you are going and we will look up some information in the book for you and pass it along! We would be happy to do that with any fur friends that ask! :)

Sissy

Ok, we live in the Pensacola

Ok, we live in the Pensacola area, I think that is so cool that you share it all with us!

Binx

Well there Sissy, just looked in the book and there is a chapter on that area in there! Do you go to the Bayview Park Dog Park, there is supposed to be leash free doggy swimming from 10 am to noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Oh boy, leash free swimming, wow! There are lots of places in here if you give me a couple names I can sure look for them in here for you! Oh, do you really have a Mardi Gras every year over that way? Sounds fun! :)

Hi there Rainbow, it was a great day being at the beach. It made it even better that we could see every single thing in the water, it was as clear as could be! :)

Boy did that sound and look

Boy did that sound and look like fun! I wish I could have been there. You have found so many neat things to do down your way! I have never been to the ocean, but love to get in the creek near the house.

Binx

Oh boy Pippi, if you ever

Oh boy Pippi, if you ever get the chance to get to the ocean you just have to go! It is so amazing! If all the beaches on the ocean are as clear as the Gulf Coast side then that is our new favorite!! We will have to do more research and tell you what we find out though! Boy, what a job that will be! :)

No sharks, they just say to

No sharks, they just say to shuffle your feet to scoot away any stingrays that may be around! Mom always watches out for me so I know that I will be ok when I am with her! Looking forward to seeing the beach where you are soon! :)

Sissy

That is the beach we go to!

That is the beach we go to! They even have a park right up the parking lot, it is nice, are there any others that you can find?

Binx

That is great Sissy! I am

That is great Sissy! I am browsing through the book and came across another place to swim in your area! It is called Sanders Beach Community Center. It is near the Pensacola Yacht Club. It says that leashed dogs can wade in the water with their people. The phone number that is listed for more information is 850-436-5670. This book is two years old so I always call to double check the dog friendly information before we go anywhere. There is a bunch of things in your area from hiking trails to canoe trips! Let me know what else you would like and I will keep looking! Have a great day! :)

Binx

Hi there Harry, believe it

Hi there Harry, believe it or not I had no sand in my fur! I was salty though so mom gave me a bath when we got home. You are so right, the Gulf beaches are great! Can't wait to go to the next one! Not this weekend though, I get to go to a real waterpark Saturday, yay!! :)
