Binx's First CGC Class!

Today I went to my very first CGC (Canine Good Citizenship) training class! It was so much fun! My Mom has a sprained finger so the instructor would not let her walk me around the ring with the other dogs. That meant that I got a different job to do tonight. Mom and I had to sit inside the ring and I had to stay still while the other dogs kept walking in front of me. When I was good and stayed still I got treats, yum! I ended up with a lot of tiny treats that is for sure! I did have a couple of moments though! One dog came over to me before the class, a German Shepherd I think, and it got a little mouthy with me so I returned the favor and barked right back! So there I thought! Mom didn’t see it the same way as I did though and made me sit down real quick! Then when we were in the ring for the training and I was laying there being so good the other class in the other ring started making a lot of really loud noises and it scared me and I felt it was my job to bark real loud at that! Again, mom made me stop and sit real quick! Boy, what is a vocal Sheltie like me to do! Next week the instructor told mom to bring this new thing for me called a gentle lead. Oh no! Also, she told us that we had to be with different people for some of the class. My mom has to have a different dog, what the heck is that all about! I am sure that I will keep trying to get to her! That German Shepherd better not be the one she gets! I will have to get vocal again that is for sure! Oh, that instructor thinks that she is going to touch MY paws next week, you have GOT to be kidding me! I do NOT like my paws touched at all, EVER! Well, if this class works and gets me to learn to relax and let people touch me, stay calm around dogs and not keep trying to drag mom to sniff them, and get my paws touched more then it will be worth it! I will let you all know next week how it goes! Binx

Mom was in yesterday talking

Mom was in yesterday talking to the trainer that tought my and Pippi's classes. She was asking if they had remdial classes I could go to. BOL Just because Mom does the hand signal for me to sit (and Pippi sits right down - teacher's pet) and I jump up and down with my front paws stuck up in the air. I'm just excited and know there have got to be some treats up there somewhere. Tee hee hee.

Thanks!! I will be working

Thanks!! I will be working very hard that is for sure! I just hope that the German Shepherd doesn't come by my mom again! Hmmmm!!!! :)

Cheer up Binx. It will get

Cheer up Binx. It will get better. As a young hellion I too had to attend training. My first class was a level 2 class just to meet the trainer. There were all sorts of big dogs there. Mostly shepherds and pitbulls and rotties. I had to sit still and walk around as the other dogs were training. More of a distraction. They were not allowed to sniff me and vice versa, but all ended well. I finished my level 1 and was also allowed to take some level 2 classes at the same time because I was a quick learner. Now I am in level 2 and get to do all the fun things they did. My trainer trains police, rescue and drug dogs so it its lots of fun.

Hi there Abby! That is just

Hi there Abby! That is just about what my first class was, too! No sniffing allowed, I don't know about you but I sure do love to sniff! Mom says that after I finish these classes and get my CGC I am not going to be done with training. She says that I will be going to more classes for more training and soon I will be wearing a vest for another kind of training also. What is a vest anyway??!! It should be ok whatever it is since when I have the vest I can go more places with her and learn to help her. I like that idea a lot! Talk to you later Abby!

Boy I just loved going to

Boy I just loved going to class! Wish I could go to class every day. Of course I still need to learn to loose leash walk across the parking lot. I just can't wait to get in there and see all my friends! Mom claims my front paws have never touched the parking lot. She's wrong of course. They do when I first jump out of the car. BOL Then I pulled hard enough to only walk on my back paws ... at least until we got inside. Tee hee hee. We can't wait to hear about all your classes.

Hi there Pippi and Cheeky!

Hi there Pippi and Cheeky! Glad you stopped by! I like to go to the classes to see all the other dogs. It is pretty fun! Mom has started using this weird harness that goes over my nose now and when I try to run and get excited it makes me not be able to do that anymore. What the heckaroo is that all about! Cheeky, I resisted a little the hand signals at first and now don't mind so much. I am really getting good at it even. Give it a chance and you will do great! Pippi, watch out pulling your mom. Don't want to have her get one of those nose things like I have now after I hurt moms finger! Talk to you later and will tell you about my next class! :)

Tinkerbell

That all sure sounds like

That all sure sounds like ALOT of work. LOL....I think I'll just stay my adorable, stubborn, no-training-whatsoever- self. Course I think when my mom has to put a leash and collar on my she really wishes she would of worked with me on that. I have a tendancy to simply sit down and refuse to move. hehe

Cheeky

I jump right up in Mom's lap

I jump right up in Mom's lap when she pulls out the harness. Pip on the other hand thinks its a great game and Mom has to chase her half the time.

Pippi

Tee hee hee.

Oh Tinkerbell, that is so

Oh Tinkerbell, that is so funny! When I was a baby mom's human sons would try and take me outside for potty and I would lay down and not budge my little tiny self! Oh no, I wanted my mommy only! Once in awhile when I get out of the car with Blake or Gregory and mommy is behind us I will go back to my old ways and lay right down and wait for her to catch up, have to make sure that she gets inside ok, you know! :)

Hi there Neary and thanks

Hi there Neary and thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving another great graphic for me! Do kitties have any special training that they can do, too??!! Talk to you later! :)

Binx, CGC

Oh Pippi and Cheeky, you are

Oh Pippi and Cheeky, you are so funny! I love to go for rides with mom, but when they pull out the harness I go and wander around like it is a game as well! Hahaha!! It always takes a couple minutes to get me there to get it on!! I don't like that silly red harness that goes over my nose though, what the heckaroo is that about! :)

Titan

That's awesome that you're

That's awesome that you're taking the class, Binx!!! Good luck with it and I'm sure you'll do great!!

Binx, CGC

Hi there Titan and thanks

Hi there Titan and thanks for stopping by to see what I have been up to now! Seems like it is always something right! This is a great thing for me though, except for that German Shepherd!!!! Ha ha!! I will tell you about my next class on Tuesday! Talk to you later! :)

Tinkerbell

I definately would NOT like

I definately would NOT like a harness on my face. I'm like you though, only my mom is capable of taking me outside, going places with me, etc...I have to wait for her and make sure she doesn't get lost...or maybe I might get lost...hmmm...anyway...are you going to be going places to see people when this training is done? Or is it mostly to help your mommy?

Binx, CGC

Hi there Tinkerbell. Believe

Hi there Tinkerbell. Believe me when I say, I do not like that silly harness on my snut that is for sure! My mom sure keeps me from acting hyper with it though, oh brother! What's a guy to do now!! I don't want to go away from my mom, but if I see a kitty then isn't it my job to round them up! Oh my dog, when we got home a little while ago there were two raccoons right in front of our door that I sure did want to round up! Mom wouldn't even let me out of the car though! When I get my training vest then I can start going anywhere my mom goes with her. She said I have to be really good when I am wearing that vest though. I will only be working with my mom, she really needs me anyway and I will like helping her! Talk to you later! :)

Tinkerbell

My mom says it's in your

My mom says it's in your nature to 'round things up' We like to 'round up' our outside cat, too. lol Till she starts swatting at us, that is. Gotta watch out for those racoons, we have one leaving "presents" on our back deck. They sure don't smell like any present I want...but that's what mom calls them. hmmmmm....I think it would be great fun to be able to go everywhere my mom goes. I'm not sure how 'helpful' I could be...but I bet you'll do great. :)

Binx, CGC

Hi Tinkerbell. Yup, that is

Hi Tinkerbell. Yup, that is what mom says all the time, that I am a little herder! Boy can I run fast after those kitties!! As for those raccoons, I am sure that mom won't let me get anywhere near one of those. Although we have just about walked into a few since we have lived here! I bet your mom thinks that you are a great help to her no matter what! I know that my mom does with me! I have to learn how to get things for her. That will be an important part of my new job you know! It is hard for her to bend over to get things and she even fell getting out of the tub before when her bad leg went out. I didn't know what to do to help her. She is going to try to teach me to get the phone in case that happens again! I was sure scared when she fell like that, she could not get up for a bit! I know that I will learn to be a great helper to her! Talk to you later! :)
